BOOK OF LIES
Hi, I've been taking a much earned rest of late, justwatching films rather than writing reviews. My bookon the Templars is by Piers Paul Read. It seems afantastic history, winning everywhere when thesensationalist literature on the same subject loses. I may buy 'Book of Thoth' or Book of Lies' by Crowleyto read, but these books seem to devolve intoeminently quotable aphorisms: 'every man and woman isa star'. Okay, but what does that mean and should wecare? Of course Crowley had a bigger impact on popculture and pop music than serious, academic lifewhich appears to be quite sterile without such people.Serious people like WB Yeats did appear out of theGolden Dawn movement, but there were, as you know, many frauds, charlatans and even people like Crowleywho still has his impact even now. I'm interestedbecause the movement appears when the greatcertainties of religion were being hit from all sidesby all kinds of Victorian mavericks and sharpshooters, yet scientific orthodoxy didn't seem to offer acomplete explanation either. There was somethingelse, which might be articulated in terms of QuantumMechanics today, but even that seems dated. By the way I went to the Highbury Leisure Centre todayfor a swim and sauna: the most fabulous cosmopolitanclientelle, folks from Persia speaking Farsi, Turks, black Africans, Brazilians. I got into my languagesagain and hope to find someone who can teach me alittle more Farsi since I have a long email fromPresident Dr Ahmadinejad I wish to translate. Ofcourse I considered high treachery by going to Tehranin return for some pleasant CDs of Iranian marchingmusic and a national guard suit. I mean traitors aresuch cheapos!!??!!Still getting that experience of Coin and Malaga outof my imagination. Have heard nothing since of C anddon't imagine I'll hear anything again.Spoke to Martha briefly. Apparantly she had manyholidays in Malaga in the 1990s, some friends of hersbought a villa down there. She couldnt understand'Eagle of the 9th' which I sent her, but really forthe little girls in the village who I felt neededexposure to some more advanced English but the wholeexercise was otiose. I must say that women really areirreplaceable, there is nothing like them, and thecompany of men isnt really that interesting at all.So, now I must go back and seize 'Book of Thoth' bythe horns. Yours in Lucifer, best wishes,Beast of Thermal Bath
